Description:
Abacus was set up to bring new thinking into the life of a school, to try out new ideas in education, and to evolve an intensely child focused school.

At Abacus, we believe that the child will learn spontaneously, as long as he is in an environment consisting of learning opportunities suited to his own specific abilities and interests. Students are provided with an environment that is just right for their specific age group. They have the opportunity to choose their work and whether to work individually or in small groups. In a mixed age group, children not only share their talent and skills with others, but more importantly, direct their own learning.

The School has classes up to X (grade 10) and is affiliated to the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi.

The journey began with a dream, which included having a place of our own. And this dream began soon after Abacus was born. It began in RA Puram, moved to Adyar, and came to fruition in Perungudi. But like all journeys, it involved a lot of hard work, lots of planning and, often, a lot of frustration! It brought together the efforts of countless parents, teachers and well wishers. People for whom this was not just a process of helping to put up a new school, but a means of contributing to a more effective educational system.
