Description:
The Israeli Institute for Democratic Education (IDE) was founded by Yaacov Hecht in 1995, the founder and the principal of the first Israeli democratic school in Hadera (1987). In addition, Yaacov established the first IDEC -International Democratic Education Conference in 1993.

Vision of the Israel Institute for Democratic Education: Educational Innovation from a Democratic Point of View.

The Institute focuses on research, development, dissemination and application of Democratic Education ideas in Israel and worldwide.

Activities of the Institute for Democratic Education:
The Israeli Democratic Schools Network: There are currently 25 schools in the democratic network which approximately 6,000 students are educated. The Institute offers consultation and guidance to groups of activists interested in founding democratic schools in different parts of the country.

Democratization Processes in Schools: The democratization process is a conceptual organizational change that leads the school toward incorporating and upholding a democratic culture.

Democratic Education City: The Institute for Democratic Education has been directing local and regional authorities in creating an overall program for their unique regional development. The Institute staff assists the local leadership in creating a vision of using all the city resources as one big school, giving each child the opportunity to develop his uniqueness in a personalized way.

The Academic Program under the auspices of the Seminar Kibbutzim College: A unique program for students with the emphasis of Democratic Education – "The incubator for social and educational entrepreneurship" (Special training program designed for high school teachers). Today there are approximately 180 students studying in the B.Ed degree program that is recognized by all higher education Institutions.

Research & Development: The Institute for Democratic Education maintains R&D contacts with educators and researchers from different schools, organizations and academic institutes in Israel and abroad.

IDE Proposal for International Coordinators - Founding Institutes for Demcratic Education: Ongoing assistance in founding regional/national institutes for Democratic Education.
The Institute for Democratic Education places an importance on the foundation of similar institutes in other places in the world. The Institute for Democratic Education is offering the services of educators trained in its ideas to those who wish to found similar institutes in their regions. Our first International project was assisting in the foundation of the Institute for Democratic Education Aotearoa in New Zealand.
