Description:
Open Connections is a resource center, not a school, with most youths attending one or two days a week as part of their home education program (as it is legally referred to in PA). Each program meets weekly, most from 9:15-2:15, from Sept. - June. There are different choices for different interests, some more academic than others, all reflecting an experiential approach encouraging self-regulation and the pursuit of personal interests. We focus on building the skills of collaboration and flexible thinking (innovation). Several "Community Days" each year, plus potlucks, dances, plays, work-project days and impromptu gatherings help create a sense of connectedness and shared purpose. We benefit as a whole (community) from the diversity of our individual members, all committed to the belief that happiness comes from within and is sustained by a sense of abundance (vs. scarcity) and an agreement to resolve conflicts through creative problem-solving (win-win) rather than competition (win-lose). Our setting is a lush 28-acre former farm/estate forty-five minutes west of Philadelphia, PA. Check out The Open Connections Magazine on-line through our website.
