Description:
Spark is a youth empowerment program engaging
students with apprenticeships, exploratory
workshops, field trips, and personal
development.
Spark’s mission is to inspire middle-school
youth to pursue their interests, create bonds
with their communities, and develop a lifelong
passion for learning.
The Spark program was developed by Melia Dicker
and Chris Balme, following their experience
teaching, tutoring and managing after-school
programs in public schools. They imagined a
program that would foster young people's natural
curiosity and excitement about learning. They
were convinced that by connecting students with
professionals who share their interests,
students would become more actively engaged in
the pursuit of learning. Spark is dedicated to
creating these learning opportunities, through
partnerships with local schools, businesses and
community organizations.
